The strength is in numbers... A shoal of sardines relies on a well-tested tactic of protecting themselves against an aggressor. The fish – accumulated in a huge shiny silvery ball – are constantly changing the shape of the shoal and the direction of its movement. By doing this they are trying to confuse the tuna fish, which is preparing itself for a violent onslaught. Alas, the predator is all too familiar with these tricks and the final outcome of the confrontation seems to be already decided.
